In this submission, prepared for the UN Universal Periodic Review of the Republic of Korea, Amnesty International comments on the implementation of previous recommendations concerning its National Security Law, abolition of the death penalty, conscientious objection and the rights of migrant workers. The organization also notes that the government has yet to reform the National Security Law and that the effectiveness of the National Human Rights Commission is undermined by a lack of funding and transparent process. Other concerns include abuses committed by security officials against protesters.
